Find the Best Grooming Employees and Grooming Jobs

Two recurring questions I see asked in Groomingland are "What should I be asking prospective employees?" and "How do I choose between two job offers?

There are six areas that are common concerns at a typical grooming establishment. Whether you are an employer, employee, or client, in some form or another, all three parties want to know:

Are we safe here? (Safety)

Are we properly cared for? (Welfare)

Why should we be here instead of over there? (Client Retention/Growth)

How long will it take to do the job? (Speed)

What is the expected outcome? (Quality)

How will that outcome be achieved? (Attitude)

This is a FRAMEWORK FOR INQUIRY that can be used to help you discover what grooming means to you and what you want it to mean to your employees and clients. It can help you choose the best employee and the right job.

You probably already have at least a general idea of which of these categories is most important to you. So go ahead and rank them.

_____ Safety of pets and people in the workplace

_____ Welfare of individual pets in your care

_____ Client retention and growth

_____ Speed

_____ Quality

_____ Attitude

Was that easy or did you find yourself making a list in your head about what safety at work looks like? I started making lists. After I wrote a few of them and page of questions, I realized there's no way I can think of all the questions out there waiting to be asked. Not only that, but what's important to me about safety or welfare or attitude might not be what's important to you. Find your questions and you are on your way to finding the right job or employee for you.
